Patience Boston was a young Native American servant who was sentenced to hang for drowning her master's grandson. Joseph Moody was the young Puritan preacher who ministered to her for seven months in the small York jail. Two years later, a psychological breakdown manifested in Moody's leaving the ministry and spending the rest of his life stalking the small town shrouded in a black hood. History remembers him only as "Handkerchief Moody".
